Screening drivers, the compliant way

A practical screen for a fleet rental usually includes:

• Identity verification — confirm the applicant is who they claim to be.
• Motor vehicle record (MVR) — driving history, license status, and violations.
• Criminal background check — scoped to what's relevant and legally permitted.

When you run a background check through a consumer reporting agency and use it to decide, the FCRA requires a specific sequence: a clear standalone disclosure, the applicant's written authorization, and — if you decide to decline based on the report — a pre-adverse-action notice (with a copy of the report), a waiting period, and a final adverse-action notice.

Skipping these steps is a common and expensive mistake. Use a screening provider that supports the adverse-action workflow.
